The Council

Brittany Pegg

Brittany is a grade 11 student at CDCI East in the International Baccalaureate programme. She has volunteered numerous times with Quinte United Immigration Services in Belleville, such as helping out with the Halloween and Christmas socials, or helping out during the Soccer Fun Day.

She also volunteered with the Halloween for Hunger food drive last year. Her interests include drama and singing, and Math and Sciences.

Aaron Simmons

Aaron is a graduate of CDCI East and currently works part-time at the Cobourg Library. Aaron’s experiences in volunteering started in high school with the YMCA day camps.

He has also been involved in leadership development for people with disabilities, and has been recognized for his community involvement by the town of Cobourg.

Aaron is an avid Heavy Metal music fan, and for the past few years has been organizing and promoting metal concerts in the area through his production company Wheeling Rampage Productions. He also created and maintains a popular blog of music and music reviews and social commentary.


Kendall MacDiarmid

Kendall is attending St.Mary’s as a grade 11 student. She has volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and various Interact activities.

Her interests include: music and cooking. Kendall’s enthusiasm is a great asset to the council.

Aidan Simmons

Aidan attends CDCI East in grade 11. Prior to officially joining NYAC he volunteered for the past few years with for the Halloween for Hunger Drive, the annual Holiday dinner and the Walk to End Bullying.

Aidan has a passion for guitar and music in general. In addition to a growing collection of guitars he has set up a small home recording studio where he experiments with many different musical styles.

He plans to attend college for music studies with the goal of having a career in producing and performing down the road.

Dina Tourlas

Dina is a grade twelve student of the International Baccalaureate Program at Cobourg DCI East. She has been a part of her school’s student council for the past two years as a Grade Representative; helping to create communication between the students and the council. She helps with the planning of events, such as grade nine day and attends them as well, helping to get students involved. Dina also volunteers with the school rugby team, managing the practices and helping the coaches.

She really enjoys spending time with her family, and for that reason enjoys working with them at their family restaurant. She loves playing rugby and plans to continue playing after highschool. Dina has a passion for studying the French language, and spent her past summer doing an exchange in Quebec to further her studies. She hopes to one day study abroad in France and become bilingual.

Rachel Reed

Rachel is currently attending CDCI East as a grade 12 student, and is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate programme. On the schools student council she holds the position of treasurer. She has volunteered with the school rugby team, helping them during practises and at games. During the summer, she runs an organic fruit and produce business, where she wholesale’s fruits and vegetables to local produce stands.

Traveling is her favourite interest as she believes you learn the most through experiencing different cultures. In recent years she has visited Cape Horn, Easter Island, and the Galapagos Islands. In March of 2012, her and her father plan to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and raise money for clean water projects in Africa while doing so.

Bella Derry

Bella is a grade 12 student of the International Baccalaureate programme. She she is currently on student council at the East as grade representative helping connect her grade to the council. One of the events, she has helped organize this year is the East Terry Fox run. Bella also volunteers with the East’s lunch buddies program.

She likes spending time with her family (especially her baby brother), being with her friends, baking, skiing and reading.

Emiliana Calderon-Donefer

Emiliana is a grade 12 student at CDCI East. She is currently the Youth Representative for the Cornerstone Family Prevention Centre’s Board of Directors. She has also volunteered with other organizations such as Art de Triomphe, Horizon’s of Friendship and as a regular artist painting chairs for the YMCA Strong Kids fundraiser.

In her school, Emiliana participates in the Interact and Environmental clubs and loves to sing in the school’s vocal group; Eclipse. She is passionate about art, and in the future hopes to bridge artistic expression and community empowerment.

Ryan Catney

Ryan-Catney-HeadshotRyan is a returning grade twelve student student at East Northumberland Secondary School in Brighton. He volunteers with the Brighton Leo’s club and the ENSS Environmental Club in addition to several political causes.

Ryan is interested in a number of international and national issues, enjoys both making and producing hip-hop music and has taken an interest in learning the Dutch language.

Dalton Wakely

Dalton WakelyDalton is a Grade 12 student at Port Hope High School. Dalton has been a member of his school’s student government for the last two years, serving as Minister of Environment and now as Deputy Prime Minister.

Dalton is also a member of the Youth Advisory Committee for the Municipality of Port Hope and is a member of many school clubs including Improv club, Environment club, Ironing club and Equity & Diversity club. Dalton is a political activist, attending University next year studying political science and worked for Obama for America in North Carolina last summer. Dalton enjoys skiing, golfing and curling during his spare time.

Daniel Hertzer

Daniel-HertzerMy name is Daniel Hertzer and will be going into Grade 12 at CDCI West in the fall. I am currently 17 years old, and live in Cobourg Ontario. I live with my sister, but I also have two older brothers that have moved away. I enjoy longboarding, playing the piano, and spending time down at the beach.

I love to be active, try new things, and I am always interested to meet new people. Music is a large part of my life, and I like to listen to many different genres, from rap to country to classical.

Brandon Léger

Brandon-LegerBrandon is currently going into Grade 11 at East Northumberland Secondary School and lives in the Brighton area.

In his spare time Brandon is an avid BMX Biker. Over the summer Brandon is going to be working on a home build with his Church.
